A Week of Jubilee Celebrations
Like many people in the UK, Roselea Court Care Home took part in celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend. However, in honour of our Queen's 70 years of service, we thought it would be more fitting to celebrate over the course of a whole week!
We started the week with an arts and crafts session on making fascinators fit for a royal event. Our ladies had a splendid time and our Senior Management Team even decided to get involved. We think all of them looked very 'jubilant' and well-prepared for a week of more celebrating.
We then welcomed singer Michael Patterson aka “The Kilty Man” to come in and entertain us with some of our Scottish favourites as part of Jubilee celebrations. At Roselea Court Care Home in Stirling, we love a singalong and Michael certainly was excellent at getting all of the residents involved. Our residents were singing, dancing, and having a jolly good time in general.
In preparation for the weekend celebrations, our team went all out to decorate the home in a spectacular way, ensuring both our residents and all of those who were invited to attend, have the best time they possibly can. Our home was draped in bunting and there were cut-outs of the Queen and her royal counterparts around every corner.
When the weekend came around, we began by celebrating with a wonderful afternoon tea in the garden. Our staff members arranged three-tiered cake stands stacked with a variety of delicious chocolate and fruit pastries. We had visiting loved ones and we all sat around in the garden sharing a drink, good conversation,s and lots of laughs. We even burst into song and dance again at one point!
On the 3rd of June it was 'National Fish & Chips Day' and we celebrated in the only way possible - with a Great British fish and chip dinner. It fitted in well with our Jubilee celebrations, as our residents gathered in the garden under the gazebo and all ate together. Many of our residents also added a traditional Scottish delicacy to their meals - a deep-fried Mars bar! As our residents sat and enjoyed their food, we arranged for a piper to come and play music, adding to the itinerary of our week-long celebrations.
On the Saturday morning, we had a very special visitor from the Provost. He visited the residents on day 6 of their Jubilee celebrations, meeting them, pouring a drink, and giving a toast to our lovely Queen. It was very kind of him to take time out of his busy schedule and we thank him and his wife very much for doing so.
The sun shone again on Sunday for our Big Jubilee picnic. We were joined by Gary the minister from St Ninians Parish Church who led us in a prayer of thanksgiving. We also had a visit from Sandy, two officers from the Salvation Army, and many family and friends. It was a wonderful way for us to end our week of celebrations, sharing each other's company and tucking into cake!
Having only been opened since the start of this year, we are absolutely thrilled to have hosted this event for our residents, staff, their loved ones, and members of our local community. We very much look forward to welcoming you all back again soon.
