Mr. George Wood, a cherished VIP at our nursing home in Stirling, recently marked a monumental occasion as he celebrated his 100th birthday on March 28, 2024, born in the year 1924. George's journey began in Edinburgh, where he grew up alongside his younger brother, William, who remains youthful at 98 years old. His life took a turn when he answered the call of duty during World War II, serving with distinction in Burma. Following his military service, George relocated to Glasgow in the 1950s, where he embarked on a new chapter, marrying and raising two sons, George and Gordon, before settling in Stirling in 1969.

A dedicated and industrious individual, George enjoyed a fulfilling career as an accountant, showcasing a natural aptitude for numbers. Beyond his professional pursuits, he found solace and joy in music, lending his voice to the choir at Holyrood church in Stirling, where he also served as an elder.

To commemorate his centenary, George was honoured with a visit from the Lord Lieutenant Alan Simpson, alongside Provost Councillor Elaine, affirming his significance within the community and the admiration he commands from all who know him.

Watterson, who presented George with his 100th birthday card from the king, greatly impressed him.

George also enjoyed an afternoon tea with his family, accompanied by entertainment from Roselea Court Care Home's talented piper, Calan. Our chef also crafted a delightful birthday cake for George and his fellow VIP's to relish. Reflecting on his life, George expressed gratitude for the experiences that shaped him into the man he is today. He cherished the celebrations shared with his loved ones, finding joy in their company.

Happy Birthday, George!
