Time Capsule Celebration at Roselea Court

At Roselea Court Care Home, we believe that some of life’s most special moments come from the simple things, like sharing stories and time together. And on 28th April 2025, we did just that. In the spirit of Global Intergenerational Week, our residents were joined by the bright and cheerful children of Braehead Nursery, fondly known here as our Rainbow Friends, for a truly heartwarming event: the planting of a blossom tree and the burial of a very special time capsule.

We were also honoured to welcome the Lord Provost, who kindly helped lead the ceremony. With her chain of office gleaming in the sunshine, she brought an extra sense of occasion to what was already a meaningful day. She and one of our team members lowered the time capsule into the earth beneath our newly planted blossom tree, a spot we chose to represent growth, new beginnings and, above all, hope.

The garden was full of smiles and chatter as residents and nursery children worked side-by-side, holding hands, scooping soil, and sharing stories. We have included in our time capsule:

  • Today’s Currency
  • Today’s Newspaper
  • List of our Favourite things
  • Pictures from our rainbow friends and a picture of today’s planting.

Seeing our residents light up while listening to the children and hearing the laughter echoing across the garden reminded us all why this partnership means so much. These visits aren’t just about fun (though there’s plenty of that) – they’re about connection, understanding, and building bridges between generations. As one resident said, “It’s just lovely having them here – they bring such energy.”

Global Intergenerational Week is all about celebrating those connections and showing how people of all ages can enrich each other’s lives. Our ongoing work with Braehead Nursery was recognised last year with a ‘Highly Commended’ mention – something we’re all incredibly proud of. Together, we’re helping challenge age stereotypes, reduce loneliness, and show that the gap between young and old is easily closed with kindness and shared purpose.

We hope that in years to come, someone will open our time capsule and see just how much joy and value this relationship brought to our home. Until then, we’ll keep nurturing these bonds and looking forward to many more moments shared with our Rainbow Friends.
